About this site

The Pico Papers is an independent publication for reflections on justice, inequity, memory, and the margins—where the most urgent questions are often asked quietly. Its editor-in-chief is Lord San Clemente Pico, a partially blind orange cat, believed to have been born behind a taco stand in Orange County, California. Pico was found in an alley, sick and barely clinging to life. Against the odds, he was rescued by a kind human and slowly nursed back to health. His vision never fully returned, but his perception of the world sharpened in other ways.
Perhaps because of the challenges of his early days, Pico has always paid attention to what others overlook. From his desk, he offers reflections on power, place, and inequity—with equal parts elegance and chaos.
This site is not about cats. It’s about seeing the world through quieter angles—curious, skeptical, and a little defiant.
